Get ready for the holiday closing period and year-end

The University of Florida will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 25, and Tuesday, Jan. 1, as well as the holiday closing period of Dec. 26 through 31 and will reopen on Wednesday, Jan. 2. As you make preparations for time off during the holidays, be sure to enter your time and leave early.

On Dec. 7, Gov. Scott announced that state offices would be closed on Dec. 24 and 31. Unlike other state offices, the University of Florida provides four personal leave days during the holiday break, which already include Dec. 31. Because of the additional personal leave days that are provided, the university will remain open on Dec. 24.

While Dec. 24 will not be considered a holiday, employees may use vacation leave that day with the permission of their supervisor. Units may also choose to close with the approval of the appropriate dean or vice president. If a decision is made to close, units should ensure it does not create hardship for employees who might otherwise have worked. Vacation leave may be advanced to eligible employees who do not have an adequate accrued balance to cover the closing.
